Our Story
Overview
Model United Nations is a simulation of the UN General Assembly, where students assume the roles of ambassadors and other diplomats from UN member states as delegates, debating global issues in UN committees and other multilateral and international bodies. MUN-Liberia was established in 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic by a Liberian international student
studying the prestigious International Baccalaureate Diploma program in West Asia at the time, with the help of fellow young leaders in Liberia.
The aim is to coach UN-style debates and activities through public speaking, diplomatic, and parliamentary rules of procedure. This is the effort of a team of highly motivated young changemakers seeking to develop and transform minds by connecting the youth of Liberia to
the local, regional, and global community through a platform dedicated to youth empowerment and the Sustainable Development Goals.
Global Citizenship
Our Global Citizenship Education for Sustainable Development in Liberia have positively impacted over 500 stakeholders with opportunities for networking with new people and in new places across Liberia, Sierra Leone, Guinea, Gambia, Ghana,, and at the UN Headquarters in New York City, developing and improving their public speaking skills, gaining knowledge and insights on global and current issues, building up research and information-gathering skills, digital literacy, diplomacy and negotiation skills, policy research and analysis, leadership and capacity building, communication, and teamwork skills, and building up competitive resumes for college and job applications, and other youth opportunities.
Founder’s Motivation:
MUN Liberia was founded in 2020 by Chernor A. Diallo, whose vision was inspired by a life-changing Model United Nations (MUN) experience while studying in West Asia in 2019. Engaging with young leaders from around the world ignited his passion to create similar opportunities for Liberian youth, equipping them with the knowledge, leadership skills, and global perspective needed to address local and international challenges.
Upon returning to Liberia, Chernor brought together a dedicated team of passionate young leaders who shared a common vision of empowering youth through diplomacy, leadership, and global citizenship education. Together, they established MUN Liberia as a platform that nurtures future changemakers, promotes meaningful dialogue, and advances sustainable development through youth engagement and community action.
Since its founding, MUN Liberia has continued to grow through the dedication of its executive team, staff, volunteers, conference alumni, and partners. Their collective commitment, innovation, and service have been instrumental in expanding the organization’s reach, strengthening its programs, and creating opportunities for thousands of young people across Liberia and neighboring African countries. Today, MUN Liberia remains a youth-led organization driven by a passionate team committed to developing the next generation of ethical and globally minded leaders.
