Our Story
Overview
Model United Nations is a simulation of the UN General Assembly, where students assume the roles of ambassadors and other diplomats from UN member states as delegates, debating global issues in UN committees and other multilateral and international bodies. MUN-Liberia was established in 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic by a Liberian international student
studying the prestigious International Baccalaureate Diploma program in West Asia at the time, with the help of fellow young leaders in Liberia.
The aim is to coach UN-style debates and activities through public speaking, diplomatic, and parliamentary rules of procedure. This is the effort of a team of highly motivated young changemakers seeking to develop and transform minds by connecting the youth of Liberia to
the local, regional, and global community through a platform dedicated to youth empowerment and the Sustainable Development Goals..
Our Global Citizenship Education for Sustainable Development in Liberia have positively impacted over 500 stakeholders with opportunities for networking with new people and in new places across Liberia, Sierra Leone, Guinea, Gambia, Ghana, Dubai, and at the UN Headquarters in New York City, developing and improving their public speaking skills, gaining knowledge and insights on global and current issues, building up research and information-gathering skills, digital literacy, diplomacy and
negotiation skills, policy research and analysis, leadership and capacity building, communication, and teamwork skills, and building up competitive resumes for college and job applications and other youth
opportunities.
Founder’s Motivation:
Chernor A. Diallo is the founder and Executive Director of MUN-Liberia. He was motivated by the life-changing experience of the Model United Nations (MUN), which he attended for the first time while studying abroad in West Asia in 2019. Meeting and engaging with a diverse group of young
student leaders from around the world for the first time inspired him to take the initiative back to his home country (Liberia) and create a platform for other Liberian youth and students to gain exposure to the global community, learn about the most pressing geopolitical issues and start taking local action to create a positive impact in the world. His dream is to have a dedicated team that works together to achieve the mission and vision of a thriving and sustainable global society through youth development and empowerment in decision-making and high-impact community organizing.
Vision
To develop globally competent and productive youth and student leaders in preparation for success in the professional world in the public and private sectors, and to create a sustainable network of young leaders, volunteers, educators, partners, and sponsors to provide access to a smooth exchange of social, educational, and entrepreneurial knowledge and resources.
